MS Nordstjernen Travel Itinerary*

Day 1: Bergen: Your journey begins in the picturesque coastal city of Bergen, the gateway to the Norwegian fjords. Before check-in, you can explore the impressive Bryggen district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The colorful wooden buildings tell stories of the glorious Hanseatic trading history. In the afternoon, it’s “all aboard!” – the adventure onboard MS Nordstjernen begins.

Day 2: Lerwick: In Lerwick, the capital of the Shetlands, narrow streets, old stone houses, and a bustling harbor life await you. Visit the imposing Fort Charlotte and stroll along the lively waterfront. Lerwick is a vibrant center of Scottish culture and history. After the long crossing last night, the ship stays in port overnight today. A good opportunity to explore the nightlife in Lerwick.

Day 3: Scalloway: Spend the day in Scalloway, Shetland’s former capital. Discover Scalloway Castle, a 17th-century fortress with a dramatic past tied to the Stewart Earls. Enjoy views of the surrounding waters, where fishing boats bring in their daily catch. The overnight harbor stay offers a serene close to the day.

Day 4: Foula: Reach the island of Foula, one of Britain’s most remote inhabited islands. Known for its dramatic cliffs and abundant birdlife, Foula is a haven for nature enthusiasts. A highlight of Foula is the ancient stone circle known as “Da Heights.” Perched on a hillside, this enigmatic site offers a connection to the island’s prehistoric past.

Day 5: Kirkwall: Kirkwall, the capital of the Orkneys, is dominated by the majestic St. Magnus Cathedral, dating back to the 12th century. Discover the charming old town or gaze out over the deep blue sea from the harbor. MS Nordstjernen stays overnight in the port – an opportunity to enjoy the city’s special atmosphere.

Day 6: Papa Westray: Papa Westray impresses with breathtaking coastal landscapes and archaeological highlights. The island is home to the Knap of Howar, the oldest known stone settlement in Northern Europe, predating Stonehenge. A place where history and nature intersect. In the evening, continue to North Ronaldsay, where the ship stays overnight at anchor.

Day 7: North Ronaldsay: The remote island of North Ronaldsay fascinates with its ancient stone wall that encircles the entire coast. The island is famous for its rare sheep that feed on seaweed. The wide landscape and the impressive bird sanctuary make it a true natural paradise.

Day 8: Bergen: In the morning, your unforgettable journey ends back in Bergen. Enjoy the last hours on board MS Nordstjernen and take home the impressions of a sea voyage full of cultural encounters and unforgettable natural moments.
